A lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, Dr Kobby Mensah has indicated what it takes for a flagbearer to choose a Running Mate for an election.
According to him, what is needed in a running mate is someone who resonates with the people and can draw them closer.
Apart from drawing the people closer, he is of the view that a running mate must understand the times and seasons the country finds itself.
“You are looking at somebody who can actually advance the course of the ticket, someone who can really be connected to voters in a manner that will draw them closer and win them the ticket. That is what matters.”
“What qualifies someone to be the running mate is whether they can understand the situation that we are in, the times we are in that the person has the same wavelength of sensitivity as Ghanaians, the person has that reflection and relates to the problems that people are going through and as a result take on board in their decision making.
His comments come on the back of a decision by the National Council to extend the date for the announcement of the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The constitution stipulates that a running mate must be announced 12 months clear of the election but the flagbearer of the party has asked for an extension to further consult on who will join him on the political party’s ticket.
