President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the women of Ghana and the world as the world marks International Women’s Day(IWD).
International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women
Delivering the 2023 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in parliament, the President used the opportunity to congratulate women the globe over for their contributions to mankind.
“Allow me to acknowledge and appreciate the significance of the day, and heartily congratulate women all over the world, and especially women in Ghana, for the role they play in realizing the dreams, cares and aspirations of humankind and of this great nation”
President Nana Addo also recognized the leadership roles of women in all facets of human life.
“The presence of women leaders, at both the local and national fronts, have advanced rights, enhanced equality, and, in general, improved the living standards and quality of lives of all concerned, including that of men”
This year the general theme is #EMBRACEEQUITY with the UN theme DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality which recognizes and celebrates women who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.
