The Onion Sellers and Traders at Agbogbloshie have lauded the government for the allocation of 500,000 Ghana cedis as transport for their relocation to Adjen Kotoku at the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra region.
Speaking to Kasapa News, one of the traders, Issaka Abdulai however, called on the government to make sure that the traders get a space since the new place is relatively small to accommodate all of them.
“Don’t leave us after giving us the money for our transport, we are really many so we are pleading that the allocation of the shops will be given to all of us in order not to render anyone jobless. We are preparing to move,” he stated.
The Onion sellers would have 300,000 Ghana cedis from the total amount and 200,000 Ghana cedis given to other affected traders who are expected to move to Adjen Kotoku by 1st July 2021.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey in an interaction with the media during a ceremony at the new place for the traders said the move is a dream come true for the region.
“It has been a long journey that started between 15 to 18-years ago for the traders and onion sellers at Agblobloshie to relocate to this place. The long and short of it all is today we are here by the grace of God we have provided a very good alternative for them. This is a better place to do business than where they are,” he opined.
“Government has also provided 500,000 Ghana cedis just for them to relocate to this place. To this end we want to thank all stakeholders who made this possible, the Members of Parliament, the Upper East Parliamentary Caucus, the Greater Accra Parliamentary Caucus the MMDCEs, the Office of the Chief Imam and his advisory board among others.”
