The Okyenhene Amoatia Ofori Panin known in private life as Odehyie Kwame Boakye Ofori Atta is the Paramount chief of Akyem Abuakwa state, one of the four states of the Akyem kingdom.
The Akyem kingdom was established in 1362 by Atta Apeanin Kwaframoa. Occupants of the Akyem stool bear the title “Okyehene” meaning King of Akyem. They are also termed “Kwaebibiremhene” meaning King of densely rich forest. This title symbolizes the geographical make-up of the Akyem state.
He was born on the 10th October, 1952 to Nana Yaw Boakye and Odehye Abena Akoto into the Asona clan.
Amoatia Ofori Panin had his elementary school at the Akwatia Cast primary school and secondary education at Abuakwa state college. He then proceeded to Oxford University where he studied Political science and administration.
He is married to Nana Asabea Ofori Atta with whom they are blessed with two children.
Before his ascension to the throne, Amoatia Ofori Panin was an insurance broker in North Brunswick NJ, USA.
Upon the death of his predecessor, Osagyefo Kuntunkununku, his brother who rulled for 23 years from 1976 to 1999, he was nominated by his family to take over the throne.
The Okyehene has been a strong advocate of environmental protection. His desire for environmental sustainability has compelled him to establish the Okyeman Environmental Foundation.
He has also established the University of Agriculture and Environmental Studies- UCAES.
