A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sam P. Yalley, has expressed disquiet about how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could be in the know of some vital yet-to-be-confirmed resolutions by the Electoral Commission (EC) in relation to this year’s general elections.

He was also alarmed that the NPP has started training its constituency executives on the new voters’ register.

His concern is premised on the fact that all the other political parties are not acquainted with the new format from the EC based on which they (political parties) will offer training to their polling agents towards the upcoming elections, but the ruling party appears to be ahead of them all.

Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political programme, Mr. Yalley stated: “My worry is that members of the NPP have been able to forecast the decision of the EC even before a stakeholders engagement which is yet to commence, and have as well have received the format to the yet to come voters register that no political party is aware of”.

The former Indian High Commissioner stressed that the conduct of the Electoral Commission has contributed to the perception of some Ghanaians not having confidence in them to produce a fair and credible elections.

“What am saying is that with the appointment of the eminent committee members engagements, EC should slow down and build the consensus and trust of compiling a new voters register before the move, because if we have the trust we are looking for before an action is taken, then the country will be free from any violence,” he added.
