General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has explained the conditions the party hierarchy will take into consideration if any candidate wants to go unopposed in the upcoming NPP Primaries.
In a MyNewsGh.com-screened interview on Okay FM, the NPP scribe said although no one can engineer for candidate to go unopposed, the party will accept sole candidatures insofar as no one picks form to contest.

“It is up to those who are contesting you to decide whether to discontinue or continue to contest the primaries, but beyond that as a party, we will open nomination and if nobody comes to pick nomination forms out of sympathy then you can go unopposed,” he clarified.
His comment comes in the wake of allegations that Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Wontumi has planned a scheme to make some candidates go unopposed.

On that, John Boadu said “anybody with doubt in the Ashanti Region should be rest assured that their doubts are wrong. Most of the things you have heard of which others have taken them seriously are rumours. It can’t be that all the 44 constituencies, one person cannot determine who should go unopposed and those that can be contested; where can this be done?” he asked on Okay FM.
