The Ghana Police Service has announced a GHC10,000 bounty for anyone who will give valuable information leading to the arrest of the suspected armed robbers who shot and killed a police officer and injured two (2) others at Mankessim in the Central region.

The incident, according to the police happened in the early hours of Wednesday, January 22, 2020, after a Police Patrol Team responded to a distress call from a Filling Station in the area.

“The incident occurred at about 0200 hours when a patrol team responded to a distress call from the ZEN filling station at Mankessim and upon arrival, the robbers opened fire injuring two police officers in the process,” a police statement said.

A few hours after the shootout at the filling station, the body of another police officer with gunshot wounds was found lifeless about 200 meters away from the robbery scene, according to the statement.

The deceased officer, Lance Corporal Kingsley Boahen, was not on duty at the time of the incident. He was also dressed in plain clothing, a statement signed by the spokesperson of the central regional police command, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong said.

All the officers were men from the Mankessim Divisional Police Headquarters. Meanwhile, the police have commenced investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP James Oppong Buanuh during an encounter with the media at the crime scene, together with other members of the Police Management Board earlier today noted that another crime scene team from Accra have been deployed to aid in the investigation.
