Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is not surprised about the contract termination of James Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Senior National Team, Black Stars.

Highlighting the shortfalls of the Ghanaian coach, Mr Nyaho-Tamakloe was emphatic that the former skipper of the national team does not possess the leadership skill to steer the affairs of the team.

He told JoyNews on Friday: “Kwesi Appiah, the problem with him that I noticed early on is that he might probably have all the experience and technical know-how but he hasn’t got that leadership skill. He is a leader and a leader must be seen to be a leader.

Kwesi Appiah sacked as Black Stars coach

“He hasn’t got the charisma; he can’t command and if you are a leader and you can’t command you must as well leave the space,”.

This was in reaction to the dissolution of all technical teams of the various national sides by the new GFA leadership.

The move, according to the GFA is to re-direct management to achieve better results.

For Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, Appiah’s weakness is glaring and “it shows whenever he is in charge of the team at international tournaments”.

He recollected that the problem was once more highlighted in the abysmal performance of the Team during their few last matches.

He pointed out that recently an assistant coach of the Black Stars was seen assisting Appiah during a match “and you see the command position of that person is more profound and Kwesi was just [standing] there”.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe has also cautioned the GFA against seeking technical assistance from world football governing body Fifa.

He argues that such a move “will not help”, linking it to how African leaders ran to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whenever there are economic challenges.

He maintained that the GFA should seek solutions internally and “pick the [new] coach within this country or maybe an African country that has a better coach that we don’t have”.
